Infantile eczema: Symptoms and Prevention

Eczema is a prolonged prickly skin complaint. Eczema generally begins within the initial 5 years of life, most frequently in the first 6 months. If your kid having mild eczema with only a few red and prickly parts, your doctor may simply prescribe an emollient lotion, ointment or gel and rarely advises the same together with a brief course of a week steroid cream. Moisturizing your infant’s skin to avoid outbreaks is essential. All broods with eczema necessitate to apply large amounts of an emollient,  numerous times a day. This helps skin to prevent excess dryness.  There are several emollients or moisturizers available in the form of creams, body lotions or ointments, in the local market, and you may need to try different brands to find out the best solution for your kid’s skin. They trigger drowsiness in babies, so it is better use at night time.

Prevention:

Exclusive breastfeeding for a minimum of 4 months will help to protect against almost all allergies, even eczema also. Some kids who suffer from eczema may sensitive to cow’s milk also. But no need of remove cow’s milk from your baby’s diet now itself, ask to your doctor about this. Soy based and goat milk based formulas re not advisable for these kids. There is no sufficient proof that excludes some food stuffs from your diet while your being pregnant or breastfeeding, will protect baby from eczema complaint. Always it is better to discuss with your doctor regarding it. Some studies show that consuming probiotics while carrying will reduce the chance of developing eczema.

Skin care tips for babies with Eczema:

Use a mild soap or a non-soap cleanser and lukewarm water for daily bath of your baby. And apply moisturizing lotion to the entire body. Try to dress up your baby in smooth, natural fabrics like cotton, avoid wool when it is not so cool. Use weak, fragrance-free laundry detergent for babies clothes and bedding. Avoid fabric softeners completely.
